AMBER LATHAM: ILLUSTRATION PORTFOLIO

Bloom & Wild Christmas Card Design

This illustration was one of the winning entries for Bloom & Wild’s charity Christmas card design competition, 2023.

The competiton guidelines asked entries to sit under four distinct themes, each with an assigned colour palette.

I worked to the theme ‘Noël / Liberté’ which focused on celebration, festive gatherings and a ‘modern’ Christmas not tied to traditional symbols/routines.

My concept: As food is such an important element of Christmas related celebrations, I chose to illustrate a festive dinner party table full of lively, fun details.

Working to the restricted colour palette meant I had to think creatively of which food/drink I could include. A traditional roast would not have worked so well, instead the retro inspired seafood dishes, clementines and candy canes made better use of the palette, while still feeling festive. Lobsters and martini style cocktails were popular motifs that year, which ensured the design aligned with current trends, and the flowers, directly inspired by one of Bloom & Wild’s winter bouquets, tied the piece back to the brand.
